BMW officially stated that it will build a new autonomous driving test site in Germany, which is expected to be fully operational in the summer of 2023.
The test site includes two experimental areas. This is a milestone moment in the construction of the BMW Group's first R&D base in Central Europe. BMW will carry out electrification, digitalization and autonomous driving work here, which is about two and a half hours' drive from the Munich R&D Center.
It is reported that the test site invested 3 million in construction, has more than 100 employees, and covers an area of 9 square meters. It consists of three separate sections, providing excellent conditions for testing assistance systems, intersections, emergency braking and avoidance.
In addition, there is a 6 kilometers long autonomous driving highway near the test site, with on- and off-ramps. At the same time, it has two lanes, an emergency parking lane, a gantry and a 1 kilometer long straight road, which provides convenience for further testing.
With the advancement of electrification and automation development, and the gradual improvement of laws and regulations in various countries, autonomous driving will become a key development area for manufacturers in the future.
