CES 2024: New Volkswagen Golf GTI quasi-production version officially released

On January 9, Beijing time, at the CES 2024 exhibition, Volkswagen stated that it would integrate ChatGPT access into its car IDA voice assistant, and also released a new golf GTI quasi-production version. As a mid-term facelift, the new car is still built on the MQB Evo platform, but has been updated and upgraded both inside and outside the car, including the car and machine systems. It is reported that the mid-term facelifted production version of the Golf will be officially released overseas at the end of January, while the GTI model will be introduced into the country around the end of 2024.

Volkswagen said that in the future, all Volkswagen models equipped with IDA voice assistant will be able to use the voice assistant with ChatGPT integration. With the support of Cerence Chat Pro, ChatGPT is integrated into the public voice assistant, and the services it can provide will go far beyond the previous scope of voice control.

There is no need to create a new account, install a new app or activate ChatGPT, just say "Hello IDA" through the voice assistant as usual or press a button on the steering wheel to activate. When IDA is activated, it automatically prioritizes whether it should perform vehicle functions, search for destinations or adjust the interior temperature. If a non-functional command is recognized, the system will automatically transfer ChatGPT to "chat". Regarding information security, ChatGPT will not access vehicle data, and members’ questions and answers will be deleted immediately to ensure the highest level of data protection.

At the press conference, Volkswagen officials also unveiled the actual car of the new Golf GTI quasi-production version. As a performance version of the regular Golf, the new car has undergone more sporty adjustments in its exterior design. For example, the front surround adopts a more radical shape design, which makes the ventilation openings on both sides have a more combative visual effect. In addition, the classic red decorative strips of the GTI model are also retained.

Looking from the side of the body, the overall shape of the new car is not much different from the current model, and it adopts a standard hatchback structure. The shape of the rear of the car is also more sporty, equipped with a large roof spoiler and a rear diffuser device. The exhaust layout with two exhaust outlets on both sides is also retained, showing the classic GTI elements.

In terms of interior, the new car will be equipped with a 10.25-inch full LCD instrument panel and a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with the classic GTI logo. The center console will be equipped with a 12.9-inch LCD instrument panel according to different models. Inch or 15-inch OLED multimedia touch screen, the car-machine system will integrate the ChatGPT big data model as mentioned above, bringing a better car-machine interaction experience. The overall vehicle display information is also more comprehensive, providing navigation, multimedia, speed limit reminder and other functions.

In terms of power, according to the current information, the overseas versionThe model may be equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged four-cylinder engine code-named EVO5, and the power of the GTI model introduced into the country in the future is currently unknown. In the upcoming regular version of the Golf, the new car will be equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged engine and a 48V mild hybrid system, and will also have a plug-in hybrid system. In terms of transmission system, the new car will still be equipped with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
